Mindfulness tip of the week: Hack your breath

Your breath is always available to you, and you don’t need any special conditions to use it. This is one of the reasons the breath plays such a big part in meditation – you can use it anywhere, anytime.

As we know our breath can reveal a lot about how we are feeling. If we are feeling stressed or tense it is reflected in our breath by it being shortened, and if we are relaxed and calm our breath is longer and slower.

We can actually take advantage of the relationship between brain and body by trying to take long and slow breaths in order to calm ourselves.

By hacking our breath we can keep a clear head in a stressful situation. We can also make our body ready for sleep after a long day by taking long slow breaths.

Next time you find yourself in an uncomfortable situation remember that you have control over your body through your breath, and use it to your advantage!
